A ceasefire must be more than temporary relief

Sustained peace, safe conditions for return and the support to rebuild peoples lives with dignity now urgently needed

Toronto, ON, April 17, 2026 鈥 In reaction to鈥痶he announced 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon, 91论坛 Lebanon91论坛 Director of Programs, Alam鈥疛anbein, said:

鈥淭he announcement is what every displaced family has been longing for. It brings a moment of relief and hope;鈥痟ope of returning home, of rebuilding, of finding some sense of normalcy again.

But this moment is also filled with deep uncertainty and fear. Many families are asking鈥痺hether this鈥痗alm鈥痺ill鈥痩ast鈥痓eyond the ten days or鈥痠f鈥痶hey鈥痺ill be forced to flee once again.鈥疶he fear of repeated displacement鈥痳emains鈥痸ery real.

For countless families, the path home is not straightforward.鈥疧ver 140,000 people鈥痑re living in temporary shelters. Many have lost everything; their homes, their sources of income and their children91论坛 access to education. Roads are damaged, services are disrupted, and even where houses still stand, the future鈥痳emains鈥痷nclear. For some, there is simply nothing left to return to.

91论坛 will鈥痗ontinue鈥痶o scale up efforts to support children and families in Lebanon鈥痑s the humanitarian needs鈥痳emain鈥痠mmense.

More than 2000 lives have been lost, 172 of these were children.

This鈥痗easefire must be more than temporary relief. What people need now is sustained peace, safe conditions for return and the support to rebuild their lives with dignity.鈥濃
